A
reminder for today
So
the king sent another captain with fifty men. The captain said to him,
"Man of God, the king demands that you come down at once." Elijah
replied, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy
you and your fifty men!" And again the fire of God fell from heaven and
killed them all. (2 Kings 1:11-12)
After King Ahab died, his son Ahaziah became the new king
of Israel. He too angered God, because he also worshipped baal the god of
Ekron. After being seriously injured he send men to ask baal if he would
survive and on their way Elijah confronted them. The king was not very happy
with Elijah’s message and so he send soldiers to arrest Elijah, but as they
called him to come down from where he was sitting on top of a hill, Elijah
asked God to send fire from heaven to destroy them, and God did.
There are a few things I want to say about this. Firstly I
feel God is once again displaying His presence through Elijah and confirming
Elijah as a true man of God. God sends down this fire to open the eyes of the
people already so confused by their king worshipping foreign gods. God is also
clearly showing His disapproval of how things are and of the king. Funny that
only the third captain realised that he is up against God and that he better
submit and humble himself: “But this time
the captain went up the hill and fell to his knees before Elijah.”
My dear friend, there is two sides to this if I compare
the image with our lives today. Sometimes we must be pushed into the right
direction by an event that happens in our live so that we can remember that God
is God and He is the only God. He is the one that you must worship and He is
the one that you must follow and listen to. Then it is also clear that God will
show His approval in you if you follow Him and He will open the eyes of those
around you that are blinded by a relentless enemy. I don’t think God will send
down fire to destroy some of your colleagues so that other would believe, but I
am sure God will do wondrous things in your life that will make other question
your happiness and He will create a desire in them to seek this freedom that
you have. This is when He will send a fire in your heart that will drive your
passion and bring those that are lost back to the Shepherd.
Come and let us live to glorify Him with a renewed
passion as we ask God to bring back the fire in us.
Have and awesome day dear friend of Jesus
Cheers
