A
reminder for today
Then
Elisha summoned Gehazi. "Call the child's mother!" he said. And when
she came in, Elisha said, "Here, take your son!" She fell at his
feet and bowed before him, overwhelmed with gratitude. Then she took her son in
her arms and carried him downstairs. (2 Kings 4:36-37)
The miracle that God did through Elisha by giving life
back to the son of the women from Shunem is actually a very nice story. She and
her husband did not have children and they took Elisha into their home whenever
he travelled that way. They end up building him a room so that he could stay
there when he was in town. So for their help Elisha asked God to give them a
son, and so a year later a baby boy was born. When he was older he got sick and
died and this is when the woman went to Elisha for help.
What I want to focus your attention on today is that
these people opened their home and their hearts to Elisha taking care of him
and God repaid them with these awesome miracles. Scripture so often turns our
attention to giving, but do we take it seriously. Do we read it and think: “Well
maybe I’ll help the next person”. I spoke to you yesterday about helping people
and I asked you when was the last time you helped someone. Today I want to
remind you that God will repay your kindness with kindness.
Give,
and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken
together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The
amount you give will determine the amount you get back." (Luke 6:38)
Jesus
told him, "If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and
give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come,
follow me." (Matthew 19:21)
Whoever
gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty
will be cursed. (Proverbs 28:27)
So
don't be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and
perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the
heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give
birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his
prized possession. (James 1:16-18)
My dear friend, it is our hands to change this world. To turn
cold hearts into warm hands and to open closed eyes so that they can see a
living and loving God. How much do we have compared to other? I read a while
back when they asked a child in a poor community how he sees rich people and
his reply was: ‘Rich people are people that can eat every day”. Let us start by
living the difference and leading other to do the same.
A giving heart is never foolish.
A giving heart is never foolish.
Have and awesome day dear friend of Jesus
Cheers
