A
reminder for today
"What's
the matter?" his wife Jezebel asked him. "What's made you so upset
that you're not eating?"
"I asked Naboth to sell me his vineyard or trade it, but he refused!" Ahab told her. (1 Kings 21:5-6)
"I asked Naboth to sell me his vineyard or trade it, but he refused!" Ahab told her. (1 Kings 21:5-6)
The story of Naboth’s vineyard is an integrated part of
the book of King’s and the result of Israel’s later exile, but what I want to
refer to today is the “want” that invested King Ahab’s heart and the evil that
followed his desire.
You see King Ahab wanted Naboth’s vineyard firstly,
because it was close to the palace and secondly he wanted to make a vegetable
garden. Even though his intentions seemed honourable, he wanted something he
could not have. So then enters his wife Jezebel who orders the assassination of
Naboth.
Now out of this I would like to run it in comparison with
our own lives today. We would do things almost identically when we desire what
we cannot have. You see when the material world is pulled over your eyes like a
cloud and the enemy misleads us with all the wonders of this world we can so
easily get corrupted. We see and want things that firstly we do not need and
secondly things that we cannot have.
I see it so often here in our own country. People will
take on debt that they cannot afford or they would buy extravagant things that
they do not need. Why do we do that? Why do we seek to fill our emptiness with
material things?
My dear friend, I believe if you cannot afford it, don’t
buy it and if you need it why seek the most expensive one. When your heart is controlled
by the desires of this world it will always be empty, but when Jesus fills that
void, you will never need anything, because all that we are is in Him. We do
not look at this world with same eyes anymore. We see this world as stepping
stone towards the real world, the new heaven and the new earth that awaits us
when our Lord returns.
Come with me today
my dear friend and let us not give in to the desires of this world, but instead
let us ask the Lord to fill all the empty spaces in our lives and lead us not
into temptation and deliver us from evil.
Have and awesome day dear friend of Jesus
