Today Reminder (My will) – 16 August 2017

A reminder for today
Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. (Psalm 143:10)

The word will is a verb and its meaning is expressing the future tense or expressing inevitable events. When we look at synonyms for the word will we find have a tendency to, are bound to, have a habit of or do. When we look at will in our own context it become something we want of something we will do. A decision we make and one we stick to. We often and when I say often I mean most of the time do our will. It becomes a habit and as the habit becomes every day tendencies we question when we find ourselves in a bit of a sour situation.

You see we get so hooked by the world and our own needs and desires that we block out the voice and guidance of the Lord and we follow our needs instead. For example: We do not need a new car, but the new Ford is so nice and has so many new features we just have to have it. We then make a massive debt that seems fine in the beginning but after a while the burden of this debt becomes a huge problem and we realise it will still continue for few years. We followed our own desires and we ended up with something we did not need but willed into our lives. Do you see how easy it is to exchange God for a Ford? Yet we pray let your will be done, but the moment God tells us His will we turn away and follow our own needs and desires.

David knew about this all too well. In his life, he faced desires that was against God’s will and he allowed them to turn his heart and it made him fall. David writes here in that God must teach him to do God’s will and let the Holy Spirit lead him to a land where he will stand firm on the Word and foundation of the Lord. This is also our prayer today and we turn to the Lord and ask Him to teach us to do His will and follow His voice.

David also says: Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. This how we must start our days. As we wake we must start by seeking and hearing the voice of our Lord and then place all our trust in Him. We must then allow the Lord to show us the way which we should walk and let Him be the guide that takes us through the day. That is why we must take each day one at a time.

Lord, teach us to hear your voice and let us follow your way. Lift up our souls to you and let us align our lives with your will. Show us the way and open our eyes and ears so that we will only hear your voice and dim out the noise of the world. Lord, let your will be done and let your kingdom come. In Jesus name.

Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers
