A reminder for
today
We know that
whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth
himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not. (1 John 5:18)
John ends the chapter with the words “Little children, keep
yourselves from idols.” We have seen in this week’s reminders how sin entered
the world and destroyed a perfect creation. Sin is the ultimate destroyer and
the one thing the enemy uses to keep us chained to his world. The whole world
is in a state of destruction towards the righteous heart. We are confronted
daily by desires and material stuff we do not need. We are constantly harassed
by tele marketers and sms’s from personal loans to discounted sales. Everywhere
we see advertising of all the beautiful worldly stuff that the enemy wants us
to need.
He forces us into debt and chains us into the misery of
having more than we need causing us to fall into his grip, because now we have
more troubles. He makes all these things look so good and nice and we start to
shift our alliance from God to these new idols. Doesn’t that remind you of
God’s people after they left Egypt. They were free from the slave masters, yet
they turned from God and made their own idol. Moses was so upset that he threw
the commandment tables down and shouted at them in their ignorance.
We see the same manner in our world today. The minute all is
well, people start to turn from God towards their material and money idols. I always
say that money makes people do funny things. By funny I mean bad and terrible
stuff. The minute money comes into play people’s hearts can get very dark.
John tells us that whoever is born of God, does not sin. He means
that when we have given our hearts to God and we are reborn Christians, there
is no more place for sin in our lives. Jesus occupies our heart and souls. Our whole
being changes, because suddenly you realise that you do not need all the pretty
stuff. You do not need more money. You do not need a glamorous life style nor
do you need a massive home. You realise that this world is headed for
destruction and in this world, you do need the stuff satan markets. You realise
that your investment is in eternity. In a world that will be forever and
perfect. You see life differently and you experience life differently.
You love in new and more complete manner and suddenly sin
has no place in your life anymore. Your desires change from world orientated to
God orientated. You realise that each day is a gift and that all you have is a
blessing, no matter how little or how much. You realise that you are reliant on
God and this a new relationship that is deeper with more meaning. You realise
that suddenly your spirit is at peace, because your view has shifted from a
shifting broken vessel to a strong and solid foundation. Suddenly life and its
purpose makes sense, because you see that it has never been about you. It has
always been about God.
Lord, what an awesome blessing it is to see how our lives
change when you enter in them. We give you our hearts and we rejoice in your
grace and love. Open our eyes so that we can see clearly and open our hearts
and ears so that we can feel and hear. Let us bring change into our lives and
celebrate you in all that we do. We love you with all our hearts, Lord. In
Jesus name.
Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.
Cheers
