A reminder for
today
Jesus replied,
"The most important commandment is this: 'Listen, O Israel! The LORD our
God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all
your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.' The second is
equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' No other commandment is
greater than these. (Mark 12:29-31)
Relationships in today’s world can be confusing and with all
the red tape that the world raps around it, we can be in quite a predicament at
times. Jesus is asked by a religious leader which command is the greatest to
which Jesus replies that you must first love your God with all your heart and
then your neighbour as you love yourself. Now if you think about it, when I do
this correctly we will not break any other commandment. When I truly love God,
I will not dare to do things that He disapproves and if I love my neighbour as
I love myself I will do nothing to them to hurt them. Our pastor said something
so important this Sunday. He said that to make any relationship work there are
two pillars that you must have in place first, before you can be any good in
any relationship. First and foremost you must have your relationship with God
and love Him with all your heart. He must be the first in your life. Then you must love yourself and have good
relationship with yourself. This means that you must be past all your mistakes
and you must love and respect yourself. Then and then only will all your other
relationships be perfect.
The thing about any relationship is that to make it work,
you must work at it. Nothing comes for free that is worth anything. Your relationship
with God is a daily commitment that you must have and you must accept and
understand who you are in Jesus Christ, then you can use this as a foundation to
work on your other relationships. When God is first in your life and you have
parted with your selfish self you will find freedom like you have never felt before.
To really love someone is to understand love and you can
only fully understand love when it comes from God. God is love and the creator
of love and He is the one that loved you first. Then He gave His life so that
you can have a sneak preview of how great His love is. Now you can take that
and implement it in the way you are supposed to love other. God has no specific
favourite, you are all His favourites so stop worrying about your funny toes or
your big ears or whatever it is about you that you do not like and embrace the
you that God created. He made you man and woman so be who you are created to
be. Love like you are a billionaire and live as if today is your last. Do not
waste time on worldly nonsense but instead spend all your energy on forever
stuff.
Lord, we are so amazed by what you do and what you did. Fill
us with your love and let us find our identities in you. Let us be who you made
us to be and let us build our foundation on you, our God and our rock. Let your
love shine through us and in every relationship we have. Let us wear your
armour today and let us be victorious in ourselves and in our relationships. In
Jesus name.
