Today Reminder (Heritage Day) – 22 March 2018

A reminder for today
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. (Psalm 91:5-6)

Yesterday was a Heritage Day here in South Africa and it is a national public holiday. It is ironic in a way that we celebrate heritage yet there is so much racial tension in our country. My personal view is that if everyone actually starts to read their Bibles and turn back to God we will not have any tension anymore. In fact, we will have forgiveness and we will forget the past and we will build tomorrow. Why can’t we just get along and accept each person for the uniqueness they have.

My son wanted to watch the new black panther movie, so I took him yesterday. I must say that the movie in itself is quite good, but the racism that comes with it was a little unnecessary. There were few comments on white colonialism and they made it sound like no black person can be successful in this world. The movie altered historical facts to adhere to the plot of hatred that the nephew had. We are Christians, so I make a point of teaching my children that all people are made by God and in His image. It is man’s choice to be bad and man’s choice to be a racist, but to be a Christian in the full sense of the word is to love all as you love yourself.

My verse for today is for all of us. No matter where you find yourself in this world there is evil around us. I think about the shootings in schools in the USA and the persecution of Christians in the Islamic states and now even Europe and off course the hatred towards farmers in South Africa and the terror of crime that sweeps through our whole nation.

God said that we should not be afraid of the terror in the night. The evil that lurks around the corner and the darkness of man’s heart. God will send His angels (verse 11) to keep us safe and watch over us. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name (verse 14).

My dear friend, we will face many challenges, and some will be harder than other, but when we go through difficult times I always think of Paul that rejoices in his sufferings. Paul also said and not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Romans 5)

Lord, we face danger and tribulation each and we live in terrible uncertainty of what awaits us, but our worries and fears we place in your hands and we pray that you will save your people and change the hearts of men to stop looking at the past and start working together for tomorrow. We take all of this and we place it in your hands. Let your will be done and let your kingdom come. In Jesus name.

Have an awesome day dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers
