Today Reminder – 30 May 2014 (Day 22 – Everywhere)

A reminder for today

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The last two days we have been without electricity and I tell you it is one thing you get used to so easily. The comfort of having power to use all your machines and being able to switch on a light and there is light. Now we have to move the candles from one place to the next and our fridges are defrosting so it is not nice anymore.

As I went out running in the darkness I just realised how fortunate we are and how comfortable our lives has become. Struggling around in the house in the dark to get all my things ready to go out and train I couldn’t stop to think how blessed we are. 

I took a small flashlight with when I ran so that I could follow the roads and watch out for unexpected rocks or obstacles in the road and as I read these verses I couldn’t help to think about that light. It was small but it gave me enough light to guide me safely back home. 

Today God is the light that guides. He is the light that keeps us from stumbling and the light that opens the darkness and carries us home to Him safely. His Word is that very light that I carry in my hand as I run. His Word shows me the obstacles in my way and guides me to overcome them and withstand their misdirection so that I do not fall.

His Word is a light for my way and a guide in my choices.

Today Reminder – 29 May 2014 (Day 21 – Everywhere)

A reminder for today

The LORD is God, shining upon us. Take the sacrifice and bind it with cords on the altar. You are my God, and I will praise you! You are my God, and I will exalt you! (Psalm 118:27-28)

The LORD is God, shining upon us.  Yesterday morning when I got up we had no power and suddenly everything seemed so quiet. I got up and went out for my morning run. It wasn’t as chilly as the previous days but the darkness made it a bit weird to run and I must admit I thought it over for moment before I started. As I got on the road and I saw the dark shapes of the other houses hidden in a light darkness I looked up and was amazed at how clear the sky was. All the other mornings the stars seemed to far, but this morning they were clear and spectacular.

For a moment I was caught in the wonder of our God and I remembered Louis Giglio comparing our little planet to the amazing stars in the universe and the word indescribable just popped up in my head again. I wondered if our lives shine as much as the stars reflecting the glory of God.

Today the Lord is in the stars, His wonder exalted by the beauty of the heavens and His presence redefined by the majority of the stars. When people look around them I want to be like the stars shinning His glory and reflecting His love. I want to stand out by the way I live my life and by the way I shine out His presence in my life.

Let the stars remind you today that as much as we need there light in the darkness, people around us needs our light in their dark times.

Today Reminder – 28 May 2014 (Day 20 – Everywhere)

A reminder for today

This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)

Yesterday morning as I drove home from the gym the sun was just breaking the horizon setting it in a beautiful red dust tone. For as far as I could see there was this awesome burning red colour that separated the dark skies from the rising sun. It is one of those pictures that stay with you.

It made me think that we seem to miss God at the most important time of the day - just before the day starts. This should be one of the best times to see Him just before we go out to face the day. God made the day and therefore His very signature is in each day. It is the one thing that should re-focus us on His majesty and confirms His very existence in our lives. The start of a new day is God and all God.

As the sun rose filling the earth with its warm and wonderful heat I can’t help to think that in the same way God should be part our lives being the very thirst thing in our days thus filling us with His warm and wonderful love.

If your day starts with God, what could possibly go wrong? The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me? (Verse 6) 

So today the Lord is the sun that opens the day and breaks the darkness. He is the very day itself that leaves me with wonder at His greatness. He is the light that replaces the dark and He is the cool air that fills my lungs. He is the very reason for my existence and the reason for my joy. He had made today and therefore I will rejoice and be glad. I will fear none for He is with me. He is my new day and my new life in Him.

Today Reminder – 27 May 2014 (Day 19 – Everywhere)

A reminder for today

I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. (Psalm 116:1)

We had one of the most amazing sermons on Sunday as our pastor talked about the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts. At the end he called out the people that needs healing. I sat and watched as so many got up and walked to the front. I was amazed at amount of need there is in our community and this is right outside our doorstep. I guess we can get so caught up in our own lives that we miss the real need around us. The funny thing is that is not always the person on the street that really needs God. It is everyone and everyone we meet. People can so easily put up a front that looks as if all is well when they are actually desperately in need of help.

Today the Lord is in my voice, the very voice that worships Him and the voice that carries His Word. He is the voice of life that comes from in me to uplift those around me. He is the voice of reason and the voice of power that destroys the enemy. He is the voice that shouts out to all that is in need and to all that are lonely in their troubles. He is the voice that carries me and lifts me up so that I can write about His greatness.

He is my voice as I live to talk about Him and all that He does for me. He is my God and He hears my voice as I call out to Him. Today I want us to hear His voice and be His voice in a world where everything around us is trying to block out His voice and turn our attention away from our Lord.

Let your voice rise out above the crowd and let people hear you as you carry His Words and become His voice in a broken world.

Today Reminder – 26 May 2014 (Day 18 – Everywhere)

A reminder for today

May the LORD richly bless both you and your children. May you be blessed by the LORD, who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 115:14-15) 

As the days turn into weeks and the weeks into months I am not surprised that June is upon us. Winter seems to have settled nicely here in South Africa as the mornings are quite chilly. I’ve been trying to show God to you in the past month and we have looked at a number of places where He is so constantly weaved into and places where we so often miss Him.

After a lovely weekend I have thought that today the Lord is in you. He is in the very heart that keeps you moving each day. He is the air that you breathe and the warm loving touch of the sun’s rays on your skin. He is the smile on your face and the strength in your will. He is the very reason you are you. 

When you look into that mirror today, look carefully and you will see His trademark on you. He made you in His image so all of you are part of Him. What an awesome thought.

May this awesome God bless you today and all your friends and family. May He touch your life and fill you with His love as the maker of heaven and earth blesses you today. May this day be a warm and wonderful day where nothing will disturb your mood and all that you do will be blessed and there will be no challenges to great. May today be a day where you see Him so clear in all that you are.
