A reminder for
today
I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my
mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. (Psalm 89:1)
He was an odd-looking bloke when he came walking up to Lizzy
full of self-confidence. She loved her morning coffee at this specific
Starbucks. It was right in the middle from her church to her work. Every
morning Lizzy was leading a group of women in a prayer group. These women came
out of a variety of different circumstances, from abuse to divorce and even sickness.
Lizzy was a strong believer and her faith was like a rock solid and
unbreakable.
Her parents were non-believers, so Lizzy grew up in a house
where God and Jesus did not exist. But from a young age she wondered about all of
this wonder around her and how could it just be. There had to be more. Her
first encounter with Jesus was through a friend in university. They went to see
Louie Giglio when he visited their church and he spoke about “How great is our
God”. Lizzy was fascinated and visited their church the following Sunday. From
there Pastor Paul guided her and answered all her questions on creation and the
existence of God. She was baptised soon after.
She looked up at him in what is probably the best “I am not
interested” look she could muster. But this odd-looking fellow did not give up.
And every morning after that he waited for her at the Starbucks with a coffee
in hand. At first, she was a little annoyed by this arrogant fellow, but after
a while she listened, and they started to talk. Lizzy picked up immediately that
Jesus is not part of his life and he is all about money and success. She wanted
none of that, but the Holy Spirit told her to listen.
It went on like this for weeks. Every morning he waited with
a cup of her favourite coffee and every morning they spoke for a while. Mostly about
his work and what client he is busy with and how much they will make out of
this deal. He was good, but he still operated in the lower level of his colleagues,
but he was driven.
One morning he asked her out of the blue about her work. Lizzy
worked for a non-profit Christian organisation helping abused woman and
children. He was shocked that she worked for them and more that she actually
believed in Jesus. Lizzy has never been intimidated by the issues of atheists
and she has dealt with a number of hard cases before. Their conversations took
a huge turn. At first, she allowed him to tell her why he did not believe. He went
all on about the big bang, evolution and the similarities of human and primate
DNA. Lizzy just smiled as she listened to him going on and on.
She gave him a few mornings to make his case and then she
started to explain it to him from a creation perspective. She explained the
creation and how everything works flawlessly. She went on to give him facts about
the sun and how we are just perfectly positioned from it. She explained evolution
and how there is no evidence for change in kind. She also clarified the issue
he had with DNA explaining a master creator using his perfect code over and
over.
As the days went by John started to realise that in all these
years he was looking at all this in a confused and uninformed way. She explained
Jesus and His crucifixion and how He is God in human form and how He took the
sin of the world upon himself, because He saw the weakness of man. After weeks
of talking, John was waiting for her just as he was so many days before but this
morning he looked different. She asked what was wrong and his answer caught her
a little of guard. “I opened your bible last night and read it. I want to
change my life…”
Form there on it was one step at a time. John joined her at
church and spoke with Pastor Paul. After a few visits he wanted to be baptised.
John came out of the water a changed man. They fell in love soon afterward and their
friendship suddenly became something very special. Lizzy took time to pray with
him, because he said that his workplace was one huge den of satan. Nobody believes
in Jesus and he was suddenly treated as someone with the plague.
John proposed to Lizzy on a warm and beautiful Saturday morning.
They love to have picnic in the park and this morning when she opened the
sandwiches there was a little box in it. John was not much of a singer, but it
still was so romantic. They immediately started their wedding plans, and all
was going so well when John was called in by his management and told that he
was not performing as needed and they will have to let him go.
John was devastated, but Lizzy knew that their God is greater
than this…
Have an awesome day dear friend of Jesus.
Cheers
