Today Reminder – 11 June 2014 (Day 08 – Stand up)

A reminder for today
And those who make idols are just like them, as are all who trust in them. (Psalm 135:18)

I feel a need to write about idols. A huge reason for failure is the desire and creation of idols. When we turn away from God and seek our own glory by creating idols in our life we are bound to fall. So many of us are caught in the grip of material needs and we desire things that will glorify only our own need to be recognised and idolised by people. When we start to create idols we soon become like them. If you idolise money you will soon become as cold and empty as the form money comes in. The constant desire for more will not satisfy your soul but instead it will create an empty vessel, dark and lost.

We do not need idols, nor do we need anything this world has to offer. That nice car will not buy you a ticket to heaven nor will it prolong your life. If you place your trust in idols it is like building a house on sand. “But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash." (Matthew 7)

The need and desire that creates idols in our lives are so contradicting to the ways that Jesus taught. The enemy wants us to feed a bottomless need so that we can get caught in its grasp constantly feeding it with lies. Jesus cleared this one for us so nicely. “Look at the birds. They don't plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren't you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6)

Nothing in this world can compare to the Lord our God and if there is anything we must desire in our lives then it is to be like Him. Leave your worldly desires and desire more of Him. "Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”

Have an awesome day dear friend of Jesus

Cheers
