Reflections of faith (Be a peacemaker) – 11 January 2019

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matthew 5:9)

Do you get upset very easily? We like to say that we have a short fuse and normally we are quick to jump into battle mode. What then happens is one gets upset and that infuses the situation and soon you have all the participants upset and it normally ends in a war of words that leads to nothing. Have you ever felt that after your argument you are still not happy? In fact, when you get upset and you argue you remain upset and you do not really feel better. I have seen it many times that you argue over something but in the end, you feel that you did not achieve anything because words can hurt, and people can become antagonistic towards you after a fight.

Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers, because they will be called children of God. Now I am not saying you should never say how you feel, I am saying we should react differently when we are upset. In proverbs we see that deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy. Jesus was an awesome example in His way of handling aggressive behaviour and how He spoke to people. James wrote that the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

Ronald Reagan said that peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the ability to handle conflict with peace. It is our reaction that determines the outcome of the situation. We see it so often on television how angry people creates more angry people and soon you have chaos.

Now to me anger and irritation is something we as Christians should not show in our lives if we follow the guidelines of Jesus Christ. In fact, the very reason that you are saved by grace and we are set free form this world we should live joyful and peaceful lives. The enemy is the one that tries to rob us of our joy, but the Lord will renew you and give you more joy, because His grace is enough.
So, let us be the peacemakers and show the light of our Lord in our lives so that other will hunger for our joy. Let us return hate with love and anger with kindness. Let us break the enemy’s plans by not allowing his hatred to detour us from our journey.

Go out into this world and make disciples of all the nations. Go out with peace and love and remember that you are loved more than you realise and that you are saved by His sacrifice. You are strengthened by His power and in you lives an almighty God. His peace is my peace and His strength flows through me. My joy comes in the morning.

Have an awesome day dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers
