A reminder for
today
And we know that
the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know
him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ.
This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from
idols. Amen. (1 John 2:20-21)
The doctor feels that I should make a more frequent visit
due to the sickness that I have. I suppose I have to submit and let him do his
work. You see the devil wants to make us more vulnerable and he will do anything
to push us into depression and fear. I woke up this morning and I said to the
enemy that I am not afraid and that he should try again today. His attempts to
bring me down will fail for my hope and trust is in Jesus Christ. I live,
because He gives me life. I am able to do what I do, because of His grace. It is
important that I remember this each and every day, because each day is a
blessing and I should live each day to its fullest for the glory of God.
John says that Jesus gives us the understanding to know what
is true so that we can live in the truth. This truth will teach us the true God
we know so that we can have eternal life. John ends this with a very important
phrase. He says that we must keep ourselves from idols. I told my son about the
golden calf the Israelites made as we drove to school this morning. I told him
that their ignorance towards God made them wonder the wilderness for forty
years. We also talked about the first commandment which is: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou
shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou
shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the
iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And
shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
(Exodus 20)
Today people miss this commandment so easily. Money, wealth
and material things take the place of God in our lives. We do not need that, we
need God. So, today keep yourself away from idols and keep your eyes on Jesus. He
is much more than all this world can ever offer. Let us remind satan that he
has nothing on us for we are forgiven by the blood of Jesus. God will show us
mercy for we love Him and we keep His commandments. Live from now onwards and
forget what is past. Jesus did it all for you, because you are so special to
Him.
Lord, we love you and we cannot do this on our own. Fill us
with your strength and wisdom so that we can bring more glory to you. You are
our God and our only God. We live for you alone. In Jesus name.
