A reminder for
today
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great
things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a
fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth
the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire
of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things
in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man
tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (James 3:5-8)
Friday was our annual go-cart race at school. There was lots
of games and fun things to do and lots to eat. My kids had a lot of fun and I
think between the three of us I was the most tired at the end of the day. This weekend
we visited my Mom and I loved to see them again and to spend a little time away
from the city. The drive was long and the roads quite busy for a weekend. Last
night I put my kids to bed and my son asked me which muscle is the strongest in
the body. He said his teacher said the tongue is, because it can cause the
biggest damage. I agreed.
So, today I am compelled to remind me and you how dangerous
the tongue is and how we should be so careful what we say and especially what
we say over other. Paul writes in Ephesians: Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that
it may minister grace unto the hearers. He says that we must speak only what is
good and enlightening to our listeners. James says that the tongue is a fire
and the tongue can defile the whole body. I always say we are what we eat, but
we are actually what we speak.
It is not easy to always say good and uplifting words to
people especially when they are corrupt, deceitful and murders. It is hard when
they condemn you when you are innocent and judge you when you did no wrong. It in
these hard and difficult times when we want to jump up and fight when we must remain
calm and speak uplifting words. James says that the tongue us unruly and full
of deadly poison, and we see that here in our country on a daily basis. James says
we cannot praise God and curse man with the same mouth. He says that it is not
right that out of the same mouth comes blessings and curses.
We can’t be both a blessing and a curse. We can only be one
and the example Jesus gave us is that we should bless all even our enemies. We should
speak uplifting words over all even those who hate us. James continues to write:
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and
easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and
without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that
make peace
Be a blessing to those around you today and carry the words
of God with you.
Have an awesome day dear friend of Jesus.
Cheers
