Today Reminder – 05 February 2014 (Day 3 – Love is…)

A reminder for today
Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. (Psalm 27:3)

We are made as emotional beings and emotions plays a big part of our daily lives. Each day we going through a number of emotions and we are confronted with a variety of emotions, because everyone is an emotional creature. Love is one of those emotions that we are confronted with on a daily basis.

We believe that love is indeed an act of the will. But we need to go one step further and affirm that love is also an emotion. Affections are part of the essence of love. These emotions might not always be intense, but they are always there to some extent.

The answer remains elusive in part because love is not one thing. Love for parents, partners, children, country, neighbour, God and so on all have different qualities. Each has its variants – blind, one-sided, tragic, steadfast, fickle, reciprocated, misguided and unconditional. At its best, however, all love is a kind a passionate commitment that we nurture and develop, even though it usually arrives in our lives unbidden. That's why it is more than just a powerful feeling. Without the commitment, it is mere infatuation. Without the passion, it is mere dedication. Without nurturing, even the best can wither and die.

Love is more easily experienced than defined. As a theological virtue, by which we love God above all things and our neighbours as ourselves for his sake, it seems remote until we encounter it enfleshed, so to say, in the life of another – in acts of kindness, generosity and self-sacrifice. Love's the one thing that can never hurt anyone, although it may cost dearly. The paradox of love is that it is supremely free yet attaches us with bonds stronger than death. It cannot be bought or sold; there is nothing it cannot face; love is life's greatest blessing.

Love is an emotion and love makes us fearless. In the midst of our storms and battles it is love that helps to drive us and keeps us focussed. Love makes us confident and keeps our heads high even when we are attacked. Love is the one emotion that keeps us going and the love for another is the emotion and bond that makes each of us committed and focussed.

Have and awesome day dear friend of Jesus

Cheers
