A reminder for
today
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith
without works is dead also. (James 2:26)
I do hope you had an awesome weekend and that you are well
rested for the week ahead. I am five days away from my competition and I am already
nervous. It is going to be a tough one, but first I have to make it through
this week. This morning I just wanted to stay in bed and sleep but there is no
time to relax so I was up at four and of to the gym. As much as exercise is
wasted without the correct diet so is faith without works.
This Sunday our sermon was exactly that which I was writing
to you about last week. The whole love your neighbour and accepting people the
way they are, but James takes this a little further as he says that faith alone
is not enough, and we need to add works to our faith. In other words, you have
to show your faith in what you do.
Jesus gave a simple example in the parable of the good Samaritan.
It is in what we do that we actually show our faith. We can trust God but if we
do not go out and show that trust we are just like any other person who claims
to be a Christian, yet they do not look like a Christian in the way they act.
I love James’s example. He says if a well-dressed man walked
in and after him a man dressed in rags and you give the good seat to the well-dressed
man and you say to the other to sit on the floor. James writes are ye not then
partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
How can you walk past a poor and hungry person and not give
them something to eat? What type of faith is that and how can they see Jesus
when you do not?
So today I challenge your faith. Come with me as we add
works to our faith. Let us give to those in need and love all equally as God loves
us all equally. Let us not be partial and judgemental in our interactions with
other, but instead let is show God’s love in the way we treat all. Love is the
answer to all the problems of this world.
Lord, let us show our faith in all that we do today to bring
glory to you and to show you to all that we meet. In Jesus name.
Have an awesome day dear friend of Jesus.
Cheers
