A reminder for
today
But if the Spirit
of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up
Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that
dwelleth in you. (Romans 8:11)
This verse came up on a few tweets this morning and there is
a number of Gospel songs that sings about this power. So, I guess we will chat
about the power that is in you. I must tell you that in past few weeks the
power of our Lord has been the very essence of my day to day survival. What is
this power?
The power of God for us was seen most dramatically when God
"raised Christ from the dead". The resurrection of Jesus was not some
poetic way to express the victory of goodness or a myth dreamt up by the first
Christians to dress Jesus up as divine. Rather, the resurrection was something
many of the earliest followers of Jesus experienced as a real, historical
event. To be precise, they did not witness the resurrection itself, but the
resurrected Jesus who, much to their surprise, had conquered death.
This passage says that the very power that raised Jesus from
the dead is available to us. We do not control this power, of course, as if it
were some universal force. Rather, we have access to such power because God
dwells in us and among us through the Holy Spirit. As we do the work God has
given us to do, he helps us with power that exceeds our comprehension and
expectations.
I know, the first thoughts that went through your mind is
what colour your cape will be and if boots will look good with the red and blue
outfit. But, no this is not what God had in mind when He tells us that the same
power dwells in us. The whole superhero idea is purely a Hollywood stunt to
confuse this world and hide the true power of a real superhero.
When God tells us that this power dwells in us, He is giving
us an idea of what is available for us as we face our challenges and stand for
His gospel. It is this power that feeds us our will and determination not to
give up and continue the fight. It is this power that keeps a cancer patient fighting
and it is this power that holds us together in pain and hardship. It is this
power that makes us calm as we face the storm and it is this power that
confirms the existence of our Lord and God. It is this power that dwells in us
in the form of the Holy Spirit and it is this power that helps us to stand up
again after we have fallen. This power is death defeating resurrecting mind
blowing stuff that will make your mortal body a fighting machine.
Therefore, you are a powerful and unbreakable force of
gospel power that the enemy will flee from. He is trying to confuse you with
troubles that this power is not for you, but he is in for a surprise, because you
know that this power is unlimited and you have it so there is nothing the enemy
have left that can hurt you.
Lord, I pray that we understand and comprehend the power
that is in us and that we will have access to it in everything we face today. Let
your glory shine through us and let your will be done. In Jesus name.
Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.
Cheers
