Confess your trespasses to one another, and
pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of
a righteous man avails much. (James 5:16)
The Holy Spirit is still putting this on my heart for there
is so much more in healing than we can comprehend sometimes. Now what is again
important is James’s words here in James 5, “The effective, fervent prayer of a
righteous man avails much”.
Now we are carrying on from where we were yesterday for it is
important that we build a foundation here. Let’s break it down (sounds like a
song, but believe me it will end in praise):
Effectual / Fervent: Modern translations interpret
this as being "powerful and effective" or "having great
power". It speaks to the passionate, heartfelt nature of the request.
Righteous: This refers to someone who is in right
standing with God. Rather than meaning flawless or without sin, it points to a
believer whose life reflects a genuine faith and who maintains a clean
conscience by confessing faults and turning away from sin.
Availeth Much: It yields tangible, dynamic results.
The prayer moves mountains, brings healing, and shifts circumstances.
Oooo… exciting Word. Ok let’s summarize. I keep saying how
important prayer and reading the Word is. Now James confirms this and more so
the power of prayer. My friend, what a man thinketh, he is. What a man (woman)
speaks has great power.
The scriptures highlight that you do not need to be a
"super-saint" for your prayers to matter. James uses the example of
the prophet Elijah to illustrate this truth. Elijah was a human with the same
struggles as anyone else, but because he prayed earnestly, his prayers
literally changed the weather (halting rain for three and a half years and then
bringing it back).
In essence seek the kingdom or heaven (seek the Holy Spirit)
above all else and all will work out for good.
Have an awesome day, my friend.
