Today's thought - 04 July 2026 (Purpose)

For the word of the LORD is right, and all His work is done in truth (Psalm 33:4). I like the passion translation on this verse. For God’s Word is something to sing about. That is just amazing.

I want to talk to you about purpose and what it is. Purpose according to the dictionary is the reason for which something is done, created, or exists. It represents a specific goal, intention, or objective driving an action. On a broader, personal level, having a "sense of purpose" means feeling motivated and having a clear, long-term guiding principle for one's life.

If you google “What is my purpose in life” you get: Your purpose isn’t a fixed destiny to uncover; it is a collection of meaningful things you choose to do with your time. It connects what you value and enjoy with the impact you want to make on the world. Your purpose will continually evolve as you grow and experience new things.

It goes on about potential, pain, platform and problems and discusses how you develop by trying new things, overcome suffering and avoid similar experiences by using your skills, achievements and resources to impact other and finally identifying a problem you are compelled to solve. Oh my, did I miss the boat in my life. I seem to have new problems each day that I am compelled to solve.

Now Jesus kinda put a nail in that one. He said as the Father send me, I am sending you.

In a world where every other person has some sort of identity crises or does not even know what to identify as, we seem to fight a very peculiar battle when it comes to purpose or even identity. The world has found itself in a place where people seek enlightenment in all sorts of worldly stuff and that is why drugs are consumed in excess (legal and illegal) and there is a high suicide rate in the world where people just give up, or they end up on the streets.

The enemy has been very successful in hiding himself in plain sight while guiding people towards the edge of a cliff and that cliff can be anything that will in the end destroy them.

How do you feel when you hear the word “Purpose”? What is the first thought that comes to mind? If you were thinking “Lotto” well I guess we can all relate, yet what is our true purpose? The minute you signed up for the Jesus team your purpose in life became identical to the purpose of the gospel and that my friend is to lead people to Jesus Christ.

I said to the people in our work prayer group yesterday, that in everything we do we must try to glorify the Father. There is so much hurt and pain in the world and a simple smile or ear that will listen is God at work through you. You have the Holy Spirit in you which means the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power at work through you. This means even if you are a little uncertain of that purpose, the Holy Spirit will bring certainty in you and by His power you can impact people without even knowing. Yes, I know some of our jobs is demanding and the people we work with even more. That just means that Jesus is even more needed in your work and you are His vessel of truth and life and you can do even greater things than Jesus did. He said it so it has got to be true.

What does the enemy do? He wants to steal your purpose, hence he is called the “thief”. Jesus said the opposite, to give life and by your obedience and commitment to the gospel you will have life and give life as Jesus said, streams of living water will flow through you (John 7:37-38).

Now please do not think I walk on water when it comes to this. I also struggle with this in my workplace. Yes. I started a prayer group as God instructed, but there are also people that I work with that I have to accept and live a life that show Jesus and not a life that is frustrated and angry. So, many times I have to ask for forgiveness because of my throughs and my actions, but in the end, I go back to God and ask Him to forgive me, help me and guide me so that through His love I will show Him in my life. Even to those I think is blind (and I will ask for forgiveness for that one).

In the end Jesus said in Matthew 10:8, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give”. You can do all this by the power of the Holy Spirit so seek Him first – always.

Have an awesome day, my friend. We are only limited by the limits we put on the Holy Spirit.
