Today's thought - 25 September 2026 (Emotions)

 

How are you, my friend? Today I want to talk to you about emotions. Yes, there are those we meet in life we think might need a few, but I am referring to acting on your emotions. You see I sometimes act on or react on how I feel. If I feel it is unfair or unjust I will sometimes allow my emotions to get the better of me, I react to that.

Here in Job 10, Job is on the complain train. Verse 1 starts with, “I am disgusted with my life. Let me complain freely. My bitter soul must complain”. Now rightfully so, because Job has lost everything and he is tormented by his position and his circumstances. The funny thing is that so many of us (me included) will have the same attitude with a lot less lost.

In verse 12 he says, “You gave me life and showed me your unfailing love. My life was preserved by your care”. Job as we know was a blessed man before he lost everything including his health. He is reflecting on God’s grace as he looks over his current situation. Does it sound familiar?

We look back at all the good we had and we become bitter and depressed because our current situation is slowly deteriorating and we can only see darkness. Job says in verse 22, “It is a land as dark as midnight, a land of gloom and confusion, where even the light is dark as midnight.”

Then God answers in Job 38, “Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words?” God asks Job who laid the foundations of the earth and who kept the see inside its boundaries. God goes on and basically shows Job that he has forgotten who God is and what He can do. I love how God just puts him (and us) in his place showing him through a number of questions what God is doing while we are basically living our lives.

 Job replies, “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you. You asked, ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorance?’ It is I and I was talking about things I knew nothing about, things far too wonderful for me. You said, ‘Listen and I will speak! I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.’ I had only heard about you before, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. I take back everything I said, and I sit in dust and ashes to show my repentance.”

My friend we often forget who God is when we face our battles and we often take the wrong path because we talk about things we do not know. Job said that he had only heard about God, but now he saw. Sometimes when we listen and we are still and we remember who God is while we are upset, we can change the direction of our thoughts and turn bad into good. We can steer away from negativity and turn depression around. It is a choice. Do I seek God or do I seek me? Do I listen to God or do I want to rant and moan about my problems instead of trusting God.

So, sometimes we need to do as Job did and take back everything we said, and repent. God is a God of His Word and if He is for you then nothing can be against you. If He says He goes before you, He does. If He said no weapon formed against you will prosper, it won’t and if He says His thoughts about you are of a future and a hope, then it is so.

Sometimes we need to stop and just listen.
