What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us,
who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). Every season, every battle and every
challenge is a process that is initiated whether it is something we did or something
that happens to us. It remains a process and in it we will be in that fire where
things happen, and we will have to deal with them as they come.
Now my verse is from Psalm 27, and I am just going to repeat
it here for effect, “Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false
witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. I remain
confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living
(NIV)”.
Now we know that we know there is a process. The process God
will determine how it happens for in the process there are things that need to
happen and most of the time these things require faith. Remember it is
impossible to please God without faith (Hebrews 11:6).
King Hezekiah was the 13th king of Judah, reigning from
approximately 715 to 686 BC. He is celebrated in the Bible as one of the most
faithful kings of the southern kingdom, renowned for his sweeping religious
reforms, his deep reliance on prayer, and his miraculous deliverance from the
Assyrian army.
Now this battle with the Assyrian army is where I want to
place your focus. These guys were rough and tough and meaner than a junk yard
dog. The poor Judah were terrified of this vast army that was about to destroy
them and they were discouraged. Let’s dive in at 2 Chronicles 32 after the
people raised their concerns and their uncertainty of what awaited them. This is
King Hezekiah’s response:
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged
because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a
greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but
with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the
people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.
Two things: One - He said that they (the enemy) rely on
their own strength and on people, but they rely on God who will help them fight
their battles. Two – After they heard his words (God’s Word) they were encouraged.
They had confidence.
What does the Bible give us? It gives guidance, it gives direction,
it gives God’s promises and it gives us confidence. The more time you spend in
the Word, the more your confidence grows. The more time you spend in the Word,
the better you get to know God and the more time you spend in the Word, the
more real the armour of God becomes. The more you grow in your confidence the
more you will trust and rely on God for the outcome and the victory. In other words
more of Christ and less of me.
Because why do we need this?
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the
power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to
stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly
places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand (Ephesians 6).
My dear friend, the battles are real, and the enemy walks
around like a lion ready to devour us, but we no longer live in the world. We live
in the kingdom of heaven. We are God’s children and we live in His grace and in
His strength and in His protection. That is why we rejoice even in our
tribulations because Jesus said in John 16, “These things I have spoken to you,
that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be
of good cheer, I have overcome the world”.
Be of good cheer (take heart) in your trials, in your pain,
in your struggles, in your divorce, in your court case, in your sickness, in your
hurt, in your loss and in your brokenness for Jesus Christ's triumph over sin,
suffering, and death means that no worldly struggle or challenge has the final
say, ever. Plus, you will not be affected by the lies of the enemy, but you
will stand in the truth of God’s Word and in your relationship with the Holy
Spirit.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are
in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to
the Spirit.
Have an awesome day, my friend.
