So, there
is this story of this young boy David that took provisions for his brothers who
were on the battlefield facing a very relentless enemy. Now funny thing is when
he arrived there, there was this ginormous human standing on the other side of
the army of David’s brothers taunting them and shouting all kinds of funny remarks.
David was shocked when he heard the things this man was shouting and it made
him furious for this man was not just mocking the army, he was also mocking
God.
David felt this
stirring in his heart, and he went before the king and said that if no man is
willing to face this brute, he will. He said (and this is quite important) that
God is and will be with him just as God was with him when a bear attacked or
when a lion attacked the sheep he was watching over and that God will deliver
this giant in his hand.
We all know
what happened then. David walked onto that battlefield with this laughing giant
mocking him and he defeated him.
Sometimes the
giants we face are not in front of us, but they come in the form of poverty or
sickness or addiction or fear. Sometimes our giants are ourselves. I was reminded
this Sunday by our Pastor of Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not
against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil
in the heavenly realms”.
It is not the man we are fighting but the enemy behind him
or her. It is not the person we see but the unseen enemy that hides in the
shadows. It is not the sickness or the addiction but the very lie that binds us
to it. And if that sickness means my end and I will spend eternity with my
Lord, well I guess that is fine, because I will go home to my Lord.
My friend, today I am saying, “Be strong and courageous. Do
not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with
you wherever you go” and your giants will fall.
Have an awesome day.
