A reminder for today
Look here, you
who say, "Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay
there a year. We will do business there and make a profit." How do
you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning
fog—it's here a little while, then it's gone. What you ought to say is,
"If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or
that." Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such
boasting is evil. Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not
do it. (James 4:13-17)
When I was in college I had a friend that always said, “If
it is God’s will I’ll see you tomorrow”. I never gave it much thought until a
few years later. What is tomorrow other than a gift of grace out of God’s
loving hand. James says here that we boast if we talk about our own plans. In
other words, if we talk about tomorrow we should consider that fact that
tomorrow will only happen if it is God’s will. God gives so much grace that we
have come to a point where we take life for granted. Life is like the morning
fog, says James, it is only here for a little while.
Life is but a mere moment compared to eternity and we should
be so careful that we do not miss the point of life. In the end, it is all
about God and what we do here is all about Him. It is a sin to know what you
must do and then not do it. I chatted to a friend on twitter yesterday and one
thing that we talked about is how Christians are embarrassed to talk about
their faith, because it might offend someone. Why do we do that? Why are we
scared to say what we should? This is one of the devil’s best accomplishments
to make us embarrassed about our faith. You do not want to be labelled as a
Bible person. What are you then other than a fake. You know what is right, do
it. You only have today and by God’s grace we might have tomorrow. That is why
forgive and forgiveness is so important. Let go of the past and seek only
Jesus, because we need Him in every moment. We cannot do this on our own.
Lord, we thank you for another day that you have made and
given to us out of your love. Let us bring glory to you as we carry you as a
label on our lives so that other will see you in us. Let us not miss a single
moment to show you and talk about you. We love you with all our hearts. In Jesus
name.
