Today Reminder – 28 June 2017

A reminder for today
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. (1 John 2:20-21)

The doctor feels that I should make a more frequent visit due to the sickness that I have. I suppose I have to submit and let him do his work. You see the devil wants to make us more vulnerable and he will do anything to push us into depression and fear. I woke up this morning and I said to the enemy that I am not afraid and that he should try again today. His attempts to bring me down will fail for my hope and trust is in Jesus Christ. I live, because He gives me life. I am able to do what I do, because of His grace. It is important that I remember this each and every day, because each day is a blessing and I should live each day to its fullest for the glory of God.

John says that Jesus gives us the understanding to know what is true so that we can live in the truth. This truth will teach us the true God we know so that we can have eternal life. John ends this with a very important phrase. He says that we must keep ourselves from idols. I told my son about the golden calf the Israelites made as we drove to school this morning. I told him that their ignorance towards God made them wonder the wilderness for forty years. We also talked about the first commandment which is: Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Exodus 20)

Today people miss this commandment so easily. Money, wealth and material things take the place of God in our lives. We do not need that, we need God. So, today keep yourself away from idols and keep your eyes on Jesus. He is much more than all this world can ever offer. Let us remind satan that he has nothing on us for we are forgiven by the blood of Jesus. God will show us mercy for we love Him and we keep His commandments. Live from now onwards and forget what is past. Jesus did it all for you, because you are so special to Him.

Lord, we love you and we cannot do this on our own. Fill us with your strength and wisdom so that we can bring more glory to you. You are our God and our only God. We live for you alone. In Jesus name.

Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers

Today Reminder – 27 June 2017

A reminder for today
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.  (1 John 2:15-16)

I am going to see the doctor again today, because apparently there is something wrong with me. My blood tests revealed inconsistencies that the doctor is concerned about. You see satan realised that he is not getting anywhere with me by using material and worldly desires, because they just have no more effect on me. My passion and desire is God and God only. So now he takes the next step and attacks my health. He thinks that he will force me to fall by making me sick. This is just not going to work, because my life is in God’s hands and He is my king. My saviour is in control and my trust is only in Jesus. So, I fear not and I will not be defeated for I am strong when I am weak.

I love these verses. John reminds us that we should not love this world and the things of this world. We must love our Father, because nothing that pulls us into sin is from the Father, but all that builds us up and strengthen us is from God. This world will pass away and all the lust and sin with it, but he that does the will of the Lord will live forever.

It is imperative that we resist the temptations of this world and focus on that that gives life and life in eternity. Jesus said that we must not store up our treasures here on earth. We should store our treasures in heaven where it is safe. Therefore, we should live for God and do what God wants us to do so that we will live lives that builds up our treasures in heaven so that we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever.

Lord, please give us the strength to resist the temptations of this world and focus on you alone. You are our God and in you we have all we need. Keep us safe through the times that lies ahead of us and open our eyes to the lies of the enemy so that we can see through him. Let us shine with your presence so that we can touch lives and help other. In Jesus name.

Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers

Today Reminder – 26 June 2017

A reminder for today
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

Today is my eldest son’s birthday and the excitement is big. It is one of those mornings when we get up all by ourselves and we can’t wait to get to school. It is a beautiful thing to see that and to watch the smile that is just constant all the time. This weekend I watched “The Passion of the Christ” again and I guess mostly, because we realise that the end times are here and there is a time of tribulation awaiting us. I had to see it, because I needed to remember what Jesus did.

You see to accept Jesus and to ask for His forgiveness is like having your birthday. You know it is special and you know you are special when you see what Jesus did on that cross. Suddenly you are filled with excitement, because you know that the person you were is not the person you are now. It is as if you got older and wiser at once. Then you realise that you are not able to do all this on your own and the greatest part is revealed when you know that Jesus will be with you every step of the way.

He will guide you and strengthen you and He will forgive you when you make another mistake. Then there is the gift of the Holy Spirit that lives in you and makes you stronger. Suddenly you know that what you have is far greater than anything you have ever had and the urge to share this amazing gift becomes overwhelming.

My dear friend, in Jesus we have the greatest gift any person can ever have. We have life and we have freedom and we are forgiven. We are made new by the blood that He shed through pain and suffering until He said, “It is done”. There is none like Jesus and I am nothing without Him.

Lord, we thank you for all that you do for us each and every day. Thank you for taking away our sins and cleansing us from unrighteousness. In Jesus name.

Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers
