Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved
himself. Jonathan sealed the pact by taking off his robe and giving it to
David, together with his tunic, sword, bow, and belt. (1 Samuel 18:3-4)
The friendship between Jonathan and David is quite a rare
example of true friendship. I love this part: “Because he loved him as he loved himself.” Friendship is like a
rare stone and we must take really good care of it and keep it close to our
hearts. Friends are a gift from God and a true friend that loves you is not
only a gift but also an important part of our successes each day.
How are your friendships? I feel that today we should really
appreciate our good friends and make a note of telling them how important they
are in our lives. Friends are there to listen, to help, to share, to feel, to
carry, to build, to walk, to smile, to need, to hope, to cry, to hold, to stand
and most of all – to laugh and love.
You are my dear friend, and you are so important, not only
to me, but also to God and so many others. Do not allow the enemy to steal your
happiness in friendship, but let our friendship blossom in God’s love and in
God’s grace as we share this gift.
You are deep in my heart my dear friend and I appreciate
your friendship so much.
