Today Reminder (Pure ways) – 22 November 2017

A reminder for today
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts]. With all my heart I have sought You, [inquiring of You and longing for You]; Do not let me wander from Your commandments [neither through ignorance nor by willful disobedience]. Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You. (Psalm 119:9-11)

How can anyone keep their ways pure? It is a not an easy question. It is easy to answer, yes, but not so easy to do. As you saw in yesterday’s post many turn away from Christianity seeking other ways to find purpose in their lives, because living a pure and holy life is not so easy. Why is this? In my opinion it is simple. We live in a world dominated by media and television. We get the wrong idea of what is good and what is correct by watching what TV and movie characters do. They make a sinful life look cool and unfortunately the majority wants to be cool and part of the in crowd, so we turn away from God and follow the laws and ideas of man, because that is cool.

Why would we allow an old book to direct our lives when we can live it as we please? We can do what we want when we want and how we want. We make our own rules and follow our own path. Who is going to tell us we are wrong? We listen to the lyrics of song and we want to live a life like the artist filled with drugs and alcohol. Who says there is God. And suddenly we are lost in a world that we made up out of misguided ideas.

Now the question is actually: Why do we need to live a pure life? We know there is a God. I have given you a lot of proof in previous posts, so there is no doubt in that fact. A pure life is what God desires for each one of us, because sin is destroying the world and it is destroying lives. A pure life is a life that is not influenced by sin, but by God. Can I live a pure life? Yes, you can, because Jesus came and made that possible. I know you make mistakes, I make many. In fact, I make mistakes all the time. The important thing is that you realise it is a mistake and that you seek God’s guidance so that you will not make the same mistake again. Sometimes we believe that our previous impure life contaminated our future life. This is not true. When Jesus wipes away your sin, the past is gone and no more. You start fresh with a new beginning.

What if I keep making mistakes? Well then you did not commit. Following Jesus is a commitment and one you should take very seriously. Jesus is the only way to God and if we are not committed in our decision we will keep making mistakes. A donkey never makes the same mistake twice. Learn and apply.

What if it is too hard? It is not. God is our strength and He gives us all the tools to live a pure life that glorifies Him. With God all things are possible. You should understand that on your own it will be to hard, but with God it is all possible.

Steer your life towards God and follow His word and spend time in prayer. There is an enormous amount of power in prayer, so we should not neglect that privilege.

Lord, give us the strength and wisdom to live a pure life. In Jesus name.

Have an awesome day, dear friend of Jesus.

Cheers
